Congratulations, Aimee Delnero!
Congratulations to Aimee Delnero of Conifer High School, the 2010 recipient of the Bill Thompson Band Director of the Year Award. The award is named for the founder of CHBA and annually recognizes one outstanding band director for his/her dedication to reaching students through instrumental music education.
Delnero was selected by a three-member panel of judges which included David Kish, Director of Bands at Metro State College; Karen Wilmes, Alumna of CHBA and teacher for Adams County 14; and Courtney Walsh, President of the CHBA Board of Directors.
The judges had this to say about the nominee: “Aimee Delnero has dramatically improved the music program at Conifer High School and increased its enrollment and musical quality. This is due to her considerable determination, motivation, and passion for Conifer’s music programs and students.”
Delnero was nominated for the Bill Thompson Band Director of the Year Award by one of her Conifer High School students, Sean Story. Sean had this to say about Delnero: “It is impossible to force a student to appreciate music, but any student of hers is quick to be infected with her incredibly contagious passion for music. [...] One leaves her presence feeling enlightened, not harped at or criticized for lack of musical knowledge.”
